Why the decimal point moves

Multiplying decimals becomes easier when you first ignore the decimal points and multiply as whole numbers.

After that, count the total decimal places from both factors and shift the decimal point left by that many places in the product.

The place-value panel above keeps that process visible instead of hiding it behind a single answer box.

Worked example

For 1.5 × 2.5, multiply 15 × 25 = 375.

Because there are two decimal places in total, move the decimal back two places to get 3.75.
