How blueprint scales work

A scale like 1:1001:100 means one unit on the drawing represents one hundred of the same units in real life.

Multiply the measured plan length by rac{ ext{denominator}}{ ext{numerator}} to recover the actual dimension.

Use the scale strip to sanity-check whether the ratio feels reasonable before copying the result.

Common use cases

  • Reading room lengths and wall spans from floor plans.
  • Checking site layouts drawn at large ratios such as 1:500 or 1:2500.
  • Verifying whether a printed detail has been scaled correctly before construction review.
