What an intercept means

The x-intercept is where the line crosses the x-axis, so its y-value is 00.

The y-intercept is where the line crosses the y-axis, so its x-value is 00.

That makes intercepts a fast way to sketch or verify a line even before you compute many extra points.

Input method guide

  • Use two points when you already know two exact locations on the line.
  • Use slope and y-intercept when the equation already looks like y=mx+by = mx + b.
  • Use standard form when the line is written as Ax+By=CAx + By = C.
