About Scientific Notation
Scientific notation is a way of expressing numbers that are too big or too small to be conveniently written in decimal form. It has the form a × 10b, where a is a number greater than or equal to 1 and less than 10, and b is an integer.
- Example: The number 300,000,000 in scientific notation is 3 × 108.
- Use Cases: Commonly used in science, engineering, and mathematics to handle very large and very small numbers, such as the speed of light or the size of an atom.
- Entering Notation: Use 'e' or 'E' to represent '× 10^'. For example, 3 × 108 can be entered as 3e8.
