Volume formula

For a regular dodecahedron with edge length aa, the volume is V= rac{15+7sqrt{5}}{4}a^3.

Because the formula is cubic in aa, doubling the edge multiplies the volume by eight.

The companion values on the page help you relate the same solid to its total skin area and outer radius.

Where it helps

  • Polyhedron and Platonic-solid assignments.
  • 3D modeling checks when a design is constrained by edge length.
  • Comparing how different regular solids scale as their edges grow.
