Understanding Dilation

In geometry, dilation is a transformation that enlarges or shrinks a geometric figure, called the object, with respect to a fixed point called the center of dilation. The ratio by which the figure is scaled is called the scale factor.

Formula

If P is a point on the object and C is the center of dilation, the dilated point P' is given by:

P' = C + (P - C) * scale factor
