Understanding Confidence Intervals
A confidence interval is a range of values that's likely to include a population parameter with a certain degree of confidence. It's used to estimate the true value of a population mean based on sample data.
For example, a 95% confidence interval means that if we were to take many samples and calculate a confidence interval for each sample, about 95% of these intervals would contain the true population mean.
To use this calculator, enter:
- Sample Mean: The average value from your sample data.
- Sample Standard Deviation: A measure of the spread of your sample data.
- Sample Size: The number of data points in your sample.
- Confidence Level: The desired confidence level, typically 90%, 95%, or 99%.
The calculator will then provide the lower and upper bounds of the confidence interval, giving you a range within which the true population mean is likely to fall.
